KUCHING — A 33-year-old woman was fined a total of RM4,000 in default a total of 10 months’ jail by the Magistrates’ Court here today for possessing an imitation pistol and using it to threaten a man during a road rage incident.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan handed down the sentence on Anis Afifah Mazlan after she pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960 for possessing the imitation pistol and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation with intent to cause grievous hurt.

Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960 carries a maximum prison sentence of one year, or a fine of up to RM5,000, or both, upon conviction.

Section 506 of the Penal Code provides for imprisonment of up to seven years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Anis was fined RM2,000 in default five months’ jail for each charge.

According to the charge sheet, both offences occurred on Oct 27, with the possession at her house in Matang and the criminal intimidation at Mile 12, Jalan Kuching-Serian.

Based on the case facts, while driving back from Siburan with his wife after making a delivery, the complainant was provoked by a Perodua Viva driven by Anis, who repeatedly braked in front of his vehicle.

After both vehicles stopped by the roadside, a verbal altercation broke out, during which Anis pulled out an object resembling a pistol and fired a yellow rubber pellet, which struck the victim’s head.

She then fled the scene.

The complainant subsequently lodged a police report, which led to Anis’ arrest later that day.

Police seized a silver Perodua Viva with a registration number matching the complainant’s description, a grey Perodua car key, a black imitation Glock pistol made in China, a black imitation magazine, and eight yellow rubber pellets.
