Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu officially informed the Dewan Rakyat today that Malaysia’s physical rice stock currently stands at 1.09 million metric tonnes. This volume is sufficient to meet the national demand for approximately 5.45 months, providing a significant buffer against potential global supply chain disruptions. The minister emphasized that the government is continuously monitoring local production and import channels to ensure food security remains a top priority for the year.
Beyond food security, the Dewan Rakyat also addressed education and safety issues. Discussions are underway regarding a proposal to transfer the management of the Matriculation Programme from the Education Ministry to the Higher Education Ministry to streamline administrative processes. Furthermore, lawmakers expressed concern over Higher Education Ministry statistics revealing 37 student deaths on campuses over the last five years, leading to urgent calls for improved safety protocols and mental health support within tertiary institutions.
