KUALA LUMPUR: There was no all-Malaysian clash at the World Championships 2026 today as top men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik moved through to the quarterfinals after receiving a walkover in the round of 16 of the World Championships in India.

The fourth seeds were handed the victory after compatriots Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun withdrew from the scheduled match at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.

“World number four, Aaron-Wooi Yik advanced to the last eight after receiving a walkover following Kai Wun’s withdrawal due to illness,” the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) said on their Facebook page tonight.

In the quarterfinals, Aaron-Wooi Yik will face the winners of the match between China’s Hu Ke Yuan-Lin Xiang Yi and Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard of Denmark.

Meanwhile, men’s doubles pair Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King put up a gallant fight before going down to India’s world No 5 pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chiraq Shetty 23-21, 19-21, 17-21 after battling for 82 minutes.

This is the second consecutive year that the Malaysian world No 19 pair have been eliminated in the third round of the World Championships.
