KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24* — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has launched an investigation under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 regarding a viral video showing the Malaysian flag being replaced by Sabah and Sarawak flags.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain stated that the incident occurred in Melbourne on September 16, reportedly symbolizing the end of Malaysia's "colonization" of the two states.

A total of 35 reports were filed about the video, with 34 in Sabah and one in Kuala Lumpur. The video was circulated by a Malaysian social media account owner from Sabah, who has prior criminal records related to defamation and communication offenses. He is currently out on bail of RM3,000 for an unrelated case pending a November mention.

Razarudin confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish the connection between the suspect and the individual recorded lowering the flag. The eight-minute video shows a group of people lowering the Jalur Gemilang and raising the state flags in front of the Victoria Parliament building in Melbourne.
