Kedah Floods Leave 972 Farmers Facing RM13.5m in Losses as Over 1,500ha of Paddy Fields Submerged
JITRA, Sept 27 — Nearly 1,000 rice farmers in Kedah, under the Farmers’ Organisation Authority (LPP), have suffered RM13.5 million in losses after more than 1,500 hectares of paddy fields were flooded. The hardest-hit area, Asun, saw 367 hectares affected, with crops just days from harvest.
LPP chairman Datuk Mahfuz Omar acknowledged the heavy toll, as farmers face the dilemma of harvesting despite low yields. The Agriculture Department is assessing losses to determine compensation. Farmers, like 58-year-old Arman Majid, are anxiously awaiting aid to cover rising operational costs amid the devastation.
