Kelantan Police Reject RM50,000 Bribe, Arrest Migrant Smuggling Agent
A 24-year-old migrant smuggling agent attempted to bribe Malaysian border patrol officers with RM50,000 in a bid to avoid arrest, but his offer was rejected during a crackdown in Kota Bharu, Kelantan on December 7.
The operation, part of Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan, led to the arrest of three men suspected to be ringleaders of the trafficking syndicate, along with 16 illegal immigrants from Myanmar. The agent, who was later apprehended near Sultan Ismail Petra Airport, was arrested for attempting to bribe the officers. Authorities seized RM50,000 in cash, mobile phones, and vehicles, while all suspects face charges under anti-trafficking and immigration laws.
