Kelantan Fire Dept Flags 19 High-Risk Roads for CNY, Boosts Patrols
KOTA BHARU, Jan 28 — The Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has identified 19 high-risk accident hotspots for the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday, including key routes in Jeli, Gua Musang, Kuala Krai, and Pasir Puteh.
JBPM Kelantan Director Farhan Sufyan Borhan noted that areas with sharp bends, narrow roads, and construction zones are particularly accident-prone. Firefighters will conduct regular patrols on these routes due to expected heavy traffic during the festive period.
Last year, the department recorded 3,112 fire-related calls, a significant increase from 1,820 in 2023, with property losses exceeding RM27 million. During the Chinese New Year operation, 114 fire-related incidents were reported, mostly from electrical short circuits.
The department also recorded 31 drowning cases in 2024, leading to 23 fatalities. As part of their ongoing safety efforts, JBPM will intensify water safety awareness campaigns and patrols at identified drowning hotspots.
