Ipoh — Police arrested 12 individuals, including two female Chinese nationals, in a raid on a bungalow in Pasir Putih believed to be the base of an online job scam targeting Chinese victims.

The suspects, aged 25 to 44, were caught by the Perak Commercial Crime Investigation Department on May 2. Seized items included 20 phones, 10 laptops, and four routers worth RM36,000.

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the syndicate, active since early April, lured victims with fake job offers and promised rebates in Yuan for completing bogus purchase tasks. Victims never received the promised returns after making payments.

All suspects have been remanded until May 6, with the case being investigated under Sections 420 and 120(B) of the Penal Code. Authorities are also checking the foreign suspects' immigration status for further action.
