Newly appointed Penang Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib has called for a more inclusive and targeted approach to the state’s i-Sejahtera welfare programme. Speaking at the state assembly, he emphasized prioritizing aid for those truly in need while introducing sustainable options like skills training and microfinancing to reduce financial strain and boost self-reliance.
He praised the RM50.54 million allocation in 2023 that benefited over 280,000 recipients, but stressed the need for regular policy reviews to align with Penang2030 goals. Ramli also committed to engaging directly with the public to shape effective, people-centric policies and urged leaders and civil servants to prioritize integrity, efficiency, and public welfare over politics.
