A new wave of COVID-19 is sweeping across parts of Asia, with countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, China, and Thailand reporting a spike in infections. Hong Kong saw 31 severe cases in just one week, while Singapore recorded a 28% increase in cases and 30% rise in hospitalizations. China reports a doubling of infection rates in five weeks, and Thailand experienced a surge after public gatherings during New Year festivities.

Despite the uptick, officials say no dangerous new variants have emerged. Vulnerable populations are being urged to take booster shots. In contrast, India currently reports only 93 active cases, with no signs of a new wave, though authorities are closely monitoring the situation as a precaution. The surge is linked to factors like increased travel, gatherings, and weakened immunity, showing that COVID-19 is still very much present.
