A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck today off the Greek islands of Crete and Santorini, 82km northeast of Crete's capital Heraklion, at a depth of 68km. This popular tourist region has experienced numerous tremors in recent months, prompting temporary school closures. The seismic activity, mainly of low magnitude, has been recorded between Santorini, Amorgos, Ios, and Anafi since late January, but this recent quake is of a magnitude not seen since 1964. No casualties or significant damage have been reported.
