The Scottish National Party (SNP), a minor opposition party, has threatened to introduce a "Palestine Recognition Bill" in the British Parliament this September and "force a vote" if Prime Minister Keir Starmer does not change his stance on recognizing Palestinian statehood.

Starmer has committed to recognizing Palestinian statehood but insists it must be part of a broader Middle East peace process. The SNP's ultimatum follows a letter from over 220 British MPs, including many from Starmer's own Labour party, urging the UK to follow France, which plans to formally recognize a Palestinian state at a UN meeting in September. SNP leader in the UK Parliament, Stephen Flynn, criticized Starmer for "blocking UK recognition of Palestine" amid intensifying opposition to the Gaza war.
