Communications minister: Smooth preparations for press coverage ahead of 47th Asean Summit

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said preparations for press coverage of the 47th Asean Summit taking place this Saturday are going smoothly. 

He said as of 12 noon today, 34 countries including Malaysia has registered to cover the event. 

“A total of 290 media agencies globally has registered to attend the 47th Asean Summit. 

“There are 2,854 press personnel who have registered. From the official media in Malaysia there are 648 personnel, local media 397 and international media 1,277 personnel. 

Japan is sending the most media personnel at 314 people, while the US, South Korea and the Philippines's personnel number 181, 101 and 68 respectively, Fahmi told a press conference after his site visit to the international media centre at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here. The Philippines will be the next Asean chair after Malaysia.

In total there are six 5G in-a-Box setups (all-in-one 5G network system) here to facilitate press personnel coverage while in the entire Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre there will be 33 5G in-a-Box. 

“This is a number far larger than before. 

“As for fixed line internet prepared by Telekom Malaysia, the maximum bandwidth is 10GB, and the access points are fixed with Wi-Fi 7 which supports up to 3,000 devices and can be expanded up to 4,000 devices,” he said. 

Fahmi has also advised that the public adhere to road closures that have been executed by the authorities. 

Kuala Lumpur police had yesterday issued a stern warning to any would-be troublemakers against causing any disruption ahead of the 47th Asean Summit being held here from October 26-28.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Fadil Marsus stressed the importance of public cooperation with local law enforcement to ensure the smooth and successful running of the biannual meeting.
