Three Fined RM4,000 Each for Illegal Border Crossing from Thailand"
PASIR MAS — The Magistrate’s Court has fined three locals RM4,000 each after they pleaded guilty to illegally crossing the border from Thailand into Malaysia on January 3.
The individuals—boat passengers Lim Wu Han, 34, and a married couple, Rajmidi Sahli, 50, and Nursyuhada Abdullah, 29—were caught entering Malaysia at Sungai Pengkalan Haram Jambu in Rantau Panjang, using an unauthorized route.
General Operations Force officers observed them disembarking from a boat arriving from Thailand. All three were Malaysian citizens with valid identification.
They were charged under the Immigration Act 1959/63, which carries a fine of up to RM10,000 or imprisonment. The court set the fine at RM4,000 each, with one month’s imprisonment if they fail to pay.
Prosecutor Syazalia Che Suhaimin sought a penalty to serve as a deterrent, while defense lawyer Nabila Mohd Noordin requested the minimum fine, citing the accused's modest backgrounds.
